Re: Arabic Song Lyrics
Thu, April 7, 2005 - 10:52 AMWow - incredible site!
I always worry about offending some one with lyrics that I cannot understand. Some songs are sacred and not meant for public performance. -

Thu, April 7, 2005 - 11:43 AMExactly. That's why I avoid using songs with lyrics at all unless I know for SURE that they are okay to use. Thanks Ahmed! -

Thu, April 7, 2005 - 2:41 PMI agree. Being brought up in a Raq Sharqi world as I did, one cannot avoid music with lyrics.
Here in Austin, the ladies make it a point to educate themselves to the lyrics. That way if it is a "I found love" songs, "habibi, habibi", the dancer dances to it as if in love. If it is a "Love Lost" song, then the dancer dances to it as if her heart has been stabed.
Ever see Carela from NYC perform her Gypsy Dance. With the knife stabs in the arm and side of hip. Gotta love it.

Re: Arabic Song Lyrics
Sat, April 9, 2005 - 7:49 AMAziza Sa'id hammered home that point last weekend during her workshop. She gave an example of a song that she just was moved by. In doing her research, she found out it was about an incident in Cairo a few years back when, for some reason, a group of women decided to chop up their husbands.
While i am sure many have had the fleeting thought that it would be grand without having to pick up after an adult now and again, i would find it disturbing hearing those lyrics in a preformance.
