I am thinking of Spanish guitar for a new idea.
I also started to learn my violin this past weekend too. I will play it live next weekend for a hafla.
My idea for the release of my CD is to have as many songs as possible. My goal is 20 songs. Some like what you have been listening too with the hip hop and techno beats. Some drum solos and drum routines. Some with just acoustic instrumnets and maybe a guitar sonata or two.
Since I have been listening to belly dance albums for 25 years I have an idea of what a good CD should have in it. I am thinking a few dance routines of like 7 minutes. A few of 3 - 4 minutes. Drum solo, tabla solo, guitar ambient solo...etc.... Maybe one of these hidden tracks with a totally off the wall song that would be a surprise to everyone.

Tue, April 5, 2005 - 9:02 AMPerfect mix in my opinion.
Each track should inspire a mood and make you want to move!
And your misuc always does that for me!

Tue, April 5, 2005 - 9:51 AMSounds awesome Ahmed! I ran your idea by my husband (he has a degree in Music Composition & one in Choral Conducting as well) and he said that the mix is just about perfect. Something for everyone. I can hardly wait to hear it! -

Re: New Ideas
Tue, April 19, 2005 - 10:29 AMSince I have a home studio, I have been approched by other ethnic musicians in Austin. So for the past two Mondays I have been recording a REAL sitar player that also plays many different flutes and even a blues slide guitar.
Well, the point is I had a REAL Sitar player in my studio last night. My question is:
1> Would making an Middle Eastern sound with an Indian Sitar sound combined be too much?
2> Would a sitar composition be geared more toward a snakey Tachsim type of song. Kinda like using a chiftetelli drum beat, which is real slow and then layer it with sitar.
#2 reeks of a snake or sword routine with the sitar thus making it tribal fusion.
Just some thoughts.
On a side note. I have been practicing my violin every week and I even played it at our last show a few weeks ago. -

Re: New Ideas
Tue, April 19, 2005 - 11:10 AMThis sounds wonderful! I love the mixing of cultures in fusion pieces. I haven't found an Indian influenced piece that had enough Arabic influence in it yet to feel comfortable dancing to it. -

Re: New Ideas
Tue, April 19, 2005 - 12:00 PMI TOTALLY want to hear that sitar somewhere on your album, ahmed! I really like the idea of an indian/arabic fusion routine - I haven't seen it done much yet, and I just love the elements of both. Do it! :)

Re: New Ideas
Tue, April 19, 2005 - 1:24 PMok, ok.....
The sitar player loves me anyway, so I can get him to jam with me anytime. This will be more of a live, ethnic composition than some of the fusion mixes I have composed recently.
When we jam it is more improv. Which is my forte in live performance. All improv all of the time. Like the "Sea Voyage" song. I did that piece on Thanksgiving morning in a few hours and just improving my guitar peice.
Works for me.
You ladies are the best, thanks
